Rānui 2021 & Beyond Survey and Community Hui

The Rānui Accord – Rānui Action Project, Rānui135, Care Rānui, Rānui Community Centre and Rānui Library realised it had been a while since we checked in with the community. We decided to send out a survey and set a date for a community hui to share the results and to connect in person.

The purpose of the survey was to deepen our understanding of the Rānui Community, now and for the future through residents’ voice. To start or restart a conversation – new opportunities for community led development, ways we can work together and support each other.

Hinemoa Key, our facilitator began our evening with Karakia (Prayer) and relationship building exercises to help us connect with each other. She skilfully wove together the survey results, feedback from the survey and korero on the night, the importance of relationship building and knowing who is in your community.

We had a good mix of people who live in Rānui, work in Rānui, work in governance roles and provide support to Rānui and who serve Rānui in other ways.

Some key points from the evening:

• This survey and community hui is one way of connecting, there is more we will be doing.

• We acknowledged the people who weren’t in the room e.g. youth voice, people with disabilities and we look forward to connecting with them.

• How can we tell our own story?

• Written feedback from the survey, positive or negative was greatly appreciated. Feedback given regarding safety concerns, traffic, footpaths, roads, housing will be shared with the appropriate services.

• Follow up/next steps, what does that look like?

The Rānui Accord will let the community know of our next gathering through word of mouth, networks, our websites, Facebook pages and notice boards.
