History — 21 Oct 2004
There is no long-standing history of Ranui as a distinct area for early Maori and European settlement. It was generally regarded as part of the Swanson and greater Henderson areas rather than seen as a locality in its own right. It was more of a portage area through which Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngati Whatua iwi travelled rather than lived.
