HIC UpdateThe Ranui Health Information Centre has now regrettably closed. This is mainly due to the changes in RAP`s future direction and to HealthWEST`s community engagement strategy. The Ranui Action Project will continue its focus on health and wellbeing outcomes through its existing projects and its collaborations with social and health providers. This update has been prepared by Emma Frost, Manager Projects and Partnerships, Ranui Action Project. For more information contact Emma.
HistoryThere is no long-standing history of Ranui as a distinct area for early Maori and European settlement. It was generally regarded as part of the Swanson and greater Henderson areas rather than seen as a locality in its own right. It was more of a portage area through which Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngati Whatua iwi travelled rather than lived.

Spring in the GardenMuch hard work has gone into the garden over the last couple of months, plot holders and volunteers have been working hard to build the garden and start planting. My Name is Emma Cohen and I am the new Coordinator for the garden. It has taken me a while to introduce myself on teh website as we have been so busy in the garden itself. I have a background in Social work and then luckily managed to spend some time studying horticulture and found my ideal job -supporting a community garden which is all about people, relationships and the garden.

The Digital DivideAccording to experts the knowledge divide is corelated with the income divide. Does Ranui have a lower than average access to the internet? What oppurtunities does this represent for Ranui? I find that problem solving ideas are always available on the web. Here is what one group has done to bridge the divide. The LINCT Coalition stands for Learning and Information Networking for Community via Technology.
