| Edemocracy Lecture | A seminar event entitled `Democracy in the internet age` was held on 2 Dec 2001 at Langholm. I made some brief notes. Steven Clift, an international e-governance expert, was the keynote speaker. Steven`s message is that e-government is much more than an avenue for cheaper service delivery by government bodies. Steven believes that the heart of e-government is increasing community partipation. |

| History | There is no long-standing history of Ranui as a distinct area for early Maori and European settlement. It was generally regarded as part of the Swanson and greater Henderson areas rather than seen as a locality in its own right. It was more of a portage area through which Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngati Whatua iwi travelled rather than lived. |
