Welcome
Ranui is a community of some 10,000 people located in urban Waitakere City (West Auckland), New Zealand. It`s a happening place full of diverse people and sub-communities. It is also the home of the Ranui Action Project which is the sponsor of this site.
Ranui Action Project
The Ranui Action Project (RAP) is an innovative community development project, which aims to bring together the Ranui community, the Waitakere city council, government agencies and volunteer groups, to improve the health and wellbeing in Ranui.
RAP ran two great visioning festivals in late 2001, created an Action Plan in 2002, and the RAP Incorporated Society was formed in late 2002. Now we are progressively working on a range of community-driven projects.
Ranui is one of nine Stronger Communities Action Fund (SCAF) sites nationwide. SCAF was jointly funded by Child Youth and Family Services, and the Ministry of Health.RAP is now jointly funded by the Ministry of Social welfare and the Ministry of Health.
Evaluation of RAP as a member of the Stronger Communities Action Fund by the Centre for Social and Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation (SHORE) and Te Ropu Whariki was delivered in June 2004
Mission
RAP is to be a dynamic organisation leading healthy change by connecting people though innovation action in Ranui
Principles
The Ranui Action Project (RAP) acknowledges Maori as the indigenous peoles of Aotearoa/New Zealand with attendant tribal perspectives and kaupapa. The RAP further acknowledges the two iwi groups Te Kwerau a Maki and Ngati Whatua as having tangata whenua status in the Ranui area. The principles derived from the articles of the Treaty of Waitangi will direct the acivities of the RAP which operate amidst an ethos of:
- Diversity
- Inclusiveness
- Accountability
- Fairness
- Equity
The RAP seeks to meet its` Treaty of Waitangi responsibilities to reflect its` committment to the principals from Articles 1-4 of the Treaty of Waitangi which are:
- Partnership
- Protection
- Participation
- Right to religious/spiritual freedom
As a further committment to these principles the RAP has a Treaty Waitangi Responsiveness plan, which aims to highlight the way the Ranui commuity is already working in the spirit of kotahitanga/ partnership and to strengthen and develop this relationship for even greater long-term benefits
Statement of Purpose
To bring the Ranui community, government agencies, health providers, volunteer groups and the Waitakere City Council together to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes in Ranui and inspire people to believe:
- In themselves
- In others
- in the Ranui Community
So that they work and grow together to bring about positive changes in their own and others lives.
